Zone: 4JEWEL OF DESERT™ PERIDOT ICE PLANT
Delosperma 'Jewel of Desert Peridot' is a refined, compact cultivar within the Jewel of Desert™ series, prized for its exceptionally long bloom cycle and neat growth habit. It produces a dense carpet of small, succulent, blue-green leaves that remain evergreen in many climates. Starting in late spring and continuing through the first frost, it is covered in a profusion of neon-yellow flowers featuring a distinct white halo at the center. Unlike some older ice plant varieties, 'Jewel of Desert Peridot' is noted for its ability to produce flowers continuously rather than in distinct waves, making it a reliable source of color for water-wise gardens.
For best results, plant 'Jewel of Desert Peridot' in a location that receives a minimum of six to eight hours of direct sunlight daily. It thrives in lean, sandy, or gravelly soils and is highly intolerant of heavy clay or areas where water tends to collect. An ideal spot would be a south-facing rock garden, a raised bed, or even a trough container where sharp drainage is guaranteed. To help the plant survive cold winters, it is best to reduce watering in late autumn to allow the foliage to naturally dehydrate and toughen up. Using a gravel mulch around the base of the plant can also protect the crown from excess moisture during the dormant season.

To help Delosperma settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant Delosperma in lean, sharply well-draining soil - sandy or gravelly sites are ideal. Delosperma is a succulent that requires full sun and excellent air circulation; it does not tolerate heavy, wet soil, especially during winter months, as it is highly prone to crown and root rot. Water sparingly once established; avoid overwatering and heavy mulching, as these will lead to plant failure.
