MISS ELLEN WILLMOTT LILAC

Syringa vulgaris 'Miss Ellen Willmott' is commonly referred to as Miss Ellen Willmott French Hybrid Lilac. This old favorite is a French-bred common lilac that was introduced by the Lemoine Nursery in 1903 and named for the English plantswoman Ellen Willmott. It features extremely fragrant double creamy white blooms from early to mid-May with bluish-green, heart-shaped foliage through summer.

Miss Ellen Willmott Lilac has an upright, rounded, multi-stemmed habit and thrives in full sun in rich, fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. Perfect for hedges, screening and general landscape use.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: select a location with full sun and fertile, well-draining soil to showcase its stunning, double-white fragrant blooms. Like other classic French hybrids, it appreciates good airflow to prevent mildew, so avoid overcrowding the planting site. Provide consistent moisture while the plant establishes its root system and feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Because it sets its flower buds on old wood, avoid any late-winter pruning; perform necessary shaping or deadheading immediately after the flowers fade to preserve next year's potential.
