Zone: 4HICKSII YEW
Taxus x media 'Hicksii' is commonly referred to as Hicksii Yew or Anglo-Japanese Yew. It is a slow-growing, dense, evergreen shrub for tall hedges that features glossy dark green needle-like foliage with long, upright-growing branches that form a narrow, columnar habit. It can grow up to 10-15 feet tall with a 8-10 foot spread.
Hicksii Yew thrives in full sun to partial shade in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate shade and drought conditions once established. It tolerates urban pollution and can thrive in city environments. Pruning is not necessary, but can be trimmed to desired shape as needed.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil, selecting a location that ranges from full sun to full shade. These versatile evergreens are highly adaptable but thrive best in sites with protection from harsh, drying winds and excessive moisture, as they are susceptible to root rot in waterlogged conditions. Provide consistent water during the first growing season to ensure deep root establishment.
Prune as needed in late spring or early summer to maintain your desired form or density, as these shrubs respond exceptionally well to shearing. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, taking care to keep the material a few inches away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
