BLACK VIOLA

Viola 'Black' is a striking annual known for its deep, velvety ebony petals that appear almost entirely light absorbent. Unlike many dark flowers that lean toward deep purple or maroon, Viola 'Black' achieves a true, matte black finish, accented only by a tiny, bright yellow "eye" at the center. These blooms provide a dramatic, high-contrast element in garden borders or containers, especially when paired with silver foliage or bright neon-green companions. Despite their delicate appearance, they are remarkably resilient, offering a sophisticated aesthetic that bridges the gap between classic cottage charm and modern architectural design.

For ideal growth, Violas should be planted in a spot that receives full sun to partial shade, though in warmer climates, afternoon shade is essential to prevent the dark petals from wilting or fading. They thrive in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Deadheading spent blooms will encourage continuous flowering throughout the growing season and prevent the plant from putting all its energy into seed production, keeping the display lush and vibrant.
