Sedum 'Vera Jameson' is a classic and sophisticated hybrid stonecrop that bridges the gap between low-growing groundcovers and upright varieties. 'Vera Jameson' is prized for its arching, mahogany-purple stems and succulent, rounded leaves that emerge in a cool waxy blue-green before deepening into a rich, smoky purple-bronze as the season progresses. Reaching a modest height of 12 to 15 inches with a graceful, spreading habit, it forms a colorful mound that provides excellent texture and deep tones to the sunny garden from spring through frost.
In late summer and early autumn, 'Vera Jameson' is topped with flattened clusters of star-shaped, dusty-pink flowers. These blooms create a soft, romantic contrast against the dark, dusky foliage and are highly attractive to butterflies and bees. The stems have a unique trailing quality, making it particularly effective when allowed to "soften" the hard edges of a landscape or container.
For the most intense purple foliage and the sturdiest growth, plant 'Vera Jameson' in a location that receives full sun. It is a rugged and exceptionally drought-tolerant perennial that thrives in average to poor, well-drained soil; avoiding over-fertilization is key to maintaining its tight, mounded form and preventing the stems from becoming too elongated.
