Schizachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem) is a quintessential North American native grass, beloved for its fine texture, upright clumping habit, and spectacular seasonal transformation, shifting from a cool blue-green in summer to a stunning, rusty bronze-red in autumn. Little Bluestem is exceptionally drought-tolerant once established and thrives in poor soil; avoid rich, fertile garden soil or over-fertilizing, as excess nutrients will cause the stems to lose their upright structure and flop.
