Zone: 3BUMBLE® BUMBLEBERRY SAGE
Salvia nemorosa 'Bumbleberry' is a high-energy perennial prized for its intense, saturated color and compact habit. It produces numerous upright spikes of dark fuchsia-pink flowers that emerge from dark wine-purple calyxes, creating a rich, multi-toned effect that stays vibrant throughout the early summer. Its aromatic, deep green foliage forms a dense, bushy mound that remains attractive even when the plant is not in bloom. As a prolific flowering machine, it acts as a primary nectar source for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, often putting on a massive initial display that lasts for several weeks.
Salvia 'Bumbleberry' thrives in full sun with well-draining soil. Because it maintains a very tidy and uniform height of only 9 to 12 inches, it is perfectly suited for the very front of a perennial border, as a colorful edging along a walkway, or as a vibrant filler in mixed patio containers. To encourage a second flush of those dark berry-toned flowers in late summer, a quick shearing of the spent spikes is recommended once the first bloom cycle concludes. It is remarkably heat-tolerant and naturally resistant to deer and rabbits, making it a dependable, low-maintenance choice for adding a concentrated burst of color to smaller garden spaces.
