MIDNIGHT EXPESS® REDBUD

Midnight Express® Redbud is a sophisticated evolution of the native forest understory tree, specifically bred to maintain its intensity throughout the heat of summer. While many dark-foliaged redbuds tend to "green out" or fade as the season progresses, Midnight Express® keeps its deep, velvety burgundy-maroon leaves with remarkable consistency. In early spring, this Proven Winners® Color Choice® selection provides a dramatic display of pea-shaped, rose-pink flowers that erupt directly from the dark bark before the heart-shaped foliage even appears. This striking contrast between the neon blooms and the dark wood creates one of the most vibrant spring silhouettes available for smaller landscapes.

Structurally, Midnight Express® Redbud offers a tidy, upright-to-rounded habit that makes it an exceptional specimen tree or a bold focal point in a mixed border. It reaches a manageable mature size that fits perfectly in urban gardens or under the canopy of larger shade trees. To keep it thriving, plant it in a location with partial shade - especially in regions with intense afternoon sun - and ensure the soil is rich and highly permeable.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize annually with a balanced fertilizer. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
