Exochorda serratifolia 'Northern Pearls' is commonly referred to as Northern Pearls Korean Pearl Bush or Northern Pearls Sawtooth Pearlbush. It is a hardy, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading habit that is native to China and Korea. Spring brings white flowers that resemble a string of pearls that bloom on the previous season's growth.

Northern Pearls has a USDA Hardiness Zone of 4 - it can take the cold! It thrives in full sun in rich, acidic, loamy, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It enjoys cooler climates and is ideal for flower beds, blooming hedge and container gardening.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, selecting a site that receives full sun to partial shade for the best floral display. Although established plants exhibit moderate drought tolerance, ensure the root zone receives consistent moisture during the first few growing seasons to promote healthy development. Prune immediately after the spring flowering period to remove spent blossoms and shape the shrub, as this encourages strong growth for the following season's blooms. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to stabilize soil temperature and conserve water, taking care to keep the mulch away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
