Turkish Filbert, also called Turkish Hazel, is a pyramidal deciduous tree with a short trunk with dense, horizontal, low branching. Its trunk is mottled gray that flakes to reveal inner orange-brown coloring. Clusters of edible nuts can be roasted and eaten or left to the squirrels.
Turkish Filbert thrives in full sun and well-drained, dryer sites. Outstanding tolerance to drought and alkaline soils.

This species is exceptionally heat and drought tolerant once established, making it a robust, low-maintenance choice for urban and residential landscapes. Prune in late winter or early spring only as needed to maintain a strong central leader and clear stem, as this tree does not require the intensive suckering control needed for shrub-form hazelnuts.
