Astilbe x arendsii 'Heavy Metal' PP31438 is commonly referred to as Heavy Metal® Astilbe or Heavy Metal® False Spirea. This selection is part of the Growing Colors™ Music™ series of plants. It features large, fluffy cherry red flower plumes in early summer. It blooms later than other varieties and is more tolerant of drought and sun than many other Astilbe.
Heavy Metal® Astilbe is easy to grow and pest free. It thrives in the shady areas of the garden in rich, organically fertile, evenly moist soils. It is ideal for the informal woodland and cottage gardens.

To help Astilbe arendsii types settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, rich soil with a slightly acidic pH. Keep the soil consistently moist. Astilbe arendsii varieties do not tolerate drying out and thrive best when protected from hot, afternoon sun in dappled shade. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
