SNOW HILL MEADOW SAGE

Salvia nemorosa 'Snow Hill' (Schneehugel) is a classic, dependable Salvia that serves as the white-flowering counterpart to the popular 'Blue Hill'. It is highly valued for its crisp, pure white flower spikes that bring a bright, clean aesthetic to the garden from late spring through early summer. Reaching a mature height of approximately 24 to 30 inches, it maintains a sturdy, upright habit with aromatic, grey-green foliage. Because white reflects light so well, 'Snow Hill' is an excellent choice for "moon gardens" or for providing a sharp, high-contrast break between more intensely colored perennials in a mixed border.

To keep 'Snow Hill' looking its best, it should be planted in a full-sun location with well-drained soil. It is exceptionally hardy and drought-tolerant once established, though it performs best with regular watering during the heat of its first growing season. To stimulate a second round of white blooms in late summer, it is highly effective to shear the spent flower spikes back to the basal foliage after the first heavy flush fades. In early spring, simply cut back any dead stems to the ground to allow fresh growth to emerge. Its natural resistance to deer and rabbits, combined with its ability to attract bees and butterflies, makes it a reliable, low-maintenance staple for any landscape.
