Phlox paniculata 'Jeana' is an exceptional and highly sought-after cultivar of the native garden phlox, recognized for its top-tier performance in trial gardens. Unlike many garden phlox with large, single blossoms, 'Jeana' produces massive, tiered clusters of smaller, lavender-pink flowers that are incredibly rich in nectar. This unique Phlox makes it a premier magnet for butterflies, often attracting more than any other variety, and it provides a long-lasting, airy display from midsummer well into early fall. Growing to 3 to 4 feet tall, its stiff, upright stems and narrow, deep green leaves make it a perfect choice for the back of a perennial border or a native meadow garden.
The ideal spot for 'Jeana' is a location in full sun where it can receive at least six hours of direct light, which helps maintain its sturdy, upright habit. It is remarkably adaptable but performs best in rich, moist, and well-drained soil; it is particularly famous for its nearly flawless resistance to powdery mildew, even in humid climates. To keep it thriving, provide supplemental water during dry summer periods and apply a layer of organic mulch to keep the roots cool. While it is naturally a clean and vigorous grower, deadheading spent flower panicles will keep the plant looking tidy and can encourage a secondary flush of blooms later in the season.
