STARLIGHT CHINESE DOGWOOD

Cornus kousa 'Starlight' is commonly referred to as Starlight® Chinese Dogwood. It is an upright, densely branched, broadleaf deciduous tree with an oval crown. It is a hybrid cross between the kousa dogwood and the pacific dogwood which presents the best of both trees: the upright growth habit of the Pacific Dogwood and the disease resistance of the Chinese Dogwood. It features large, white bracts that appear in late spring and strawberry-like fruit in fall. Its leaves are glossy green that matures to red in fall.

Starlight® Kousa Dogwood thrives in full to part sun in rich, organic, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in full sun to partial shade; this species is more sun-tolerant than other dogwoods. Ensure soil is well-draining, rich, and slightly acidic. When planting, keep the root flare visible at the soil surface; never bury the trunk. Water deeply and consistently during the first two growing seasons. Pruning is rarely necessary; only remove dead, diseased, or crossing branches in late winter or early spring.
