AMERICAN PILLAR ARBORVITAE

Thuja occidentalis 'American Pillar' PP20,209 is commonly known as American Pillar Arborvitae. It is an upright, narrow, columnar evergreen shrub with rich green foliage that remains vibrant throughout the year. It can reach up to 20-30 feet in height and about 4-5 feet in width, making it an excellent choice for creating vertical accents in landscapes. Foliage is flat, scale-like and bright green with a lush, textured appearance. It has a pleasing citrus fragrance.

American Pillar is fast-growing and thrives in full sun but can also grow well in partial shade. It enjoys wide range of soils, but prefers evenly moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Easy to grow and maintain, the majestic American Pillar Arborvitae stands tall and makes an excellent choice for creating quick, green, living, privacy screens.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil, selecting a location that receives full sun to partial shade for the best foliage density and color. These evergreen species are adaptable, but they require consistent moisture to remain healthy and vibrant, particularly during the first few growing seasons until the root system is well established. Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood or to lightly shape the plant, avoiding deep cuts into old wood where foliage will not regrow. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, taking care to keep the material a few inches away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
