SUNBECKIA® BLACKEYED SUSAN

The Sunbeckia® series represents a revolutionary advancement in Rudbeckia breeding, aimed at creating the ultimate garden and patio performer. This Proven Winners® selection is quite popular for its massive, long-lasting blooms - often reaching 6 inches or more in diameter - and their exceptionally sturdy, well-branched architecture. Unlike traditional varieties that can become leggy, the Sunbeckia® series maintains a dense, mounded habit with thick, wind-resistant stems and lush, dark green foliage. Available in a wide array of sunset tones, from the classic gold of 'Luna' to the rich bicolors of 'Paulina' and 'Sophia', these hybrids provide a high-definition color impact that begins in mid-summer and continues unabated until the first hard frost.

For peak performance, the Sunbeckia® series should be positioned in full sun, as high light levels are essential for maintaining its compact structure and producing its trademark oversized flowers. These hybrids thrive in moderately fertile, well-drained soil and benefit from consistent moisture to support their heavy blooming habit; however, they are remarkably heat-tolerant and can withstand the rigors of peak summer temperatures.

The main difference between Rudbeckia fulgida and Rudbeckia hirta is in its flower size. The hirta cultivars have fewer, but larger flowers. Also, the Rudbeckia hirta stands more upright than the R. fulgida.
