Zone: 5BLOOMBUX® MAGENTA RHODODENDRON
Rhododendron Bloombux® Magenta is a remarkable evergreen shrub often celebrated as a superior alternative to traditional boxwood, offering the same dense, compact, and low-maintenance structure but with the added bonus of dramatic flowering. This unique hybrid maintains a tidy, mounding habit, reaching a mature size of about 2 to 3 feet in both height and width. Its deep green, glossy foliage provides excellent year-round interest and readily holds its shape, making it perfect for formal hedges, borders, foundation plantings, and container gardens. The most notable feature, however, is the profusion of vibrant, magenta-pink trumpet-shaped flowers that erupt in late spring to early summer, creating an eye-catching display that is also highly attractive to bees and butterflies. This blend of evergreen structure and vivid seasonal color makes Bloombux® Magenta a highly valued landscape plant.
Bloombux® Magenta is an INKARHO variety, meaning it can tolerate a wider range of soil pH, successfully growing in acidic up to neutral soil (up to approximately pH 7.5), unlike typical rhododendrons that strictly require high acidity. It performs best in full sun to partial shade, although afternoon shade is recommended in the hottest climates. The plant requires moist, well-drained soil. It will not tolerate standing water.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in rich, moist, acidic, and well-draining soil, selecting a location that provides partial shade or filtered light to protect the foliage from harsh, direct sun. These shallow-rooted shrubs require consistent moisture to remain healthy, especially during the first growing season until they are fully established. Prune immediately after the flowering period concludes, as new buds for the next year are set shortly after blossoms fade; removing spent blooms and light tip-pruning encourages a fuller, more vigorous habit. Apply a generous layer of organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature, ensuring the material remains a few inches away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
