CONTORTA WHITE PINE

The Pinus strobus 'contorta' is commonly referred to as the Contorted Eastern White Pine or Twisted White Pine. This variety of the white pine is an upright, loose-pyramidal cultivar that is noted for having contorted and twisted branches, branchlets and green needles. It typically grows 12' tall over the first 10 years eventually maturing over time to 40' tall.

The Contorted White Pine thrives in acidic, medium moistures, well-drained soil in full sun. It will not tolerate standing water.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize annually with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
