PIERIS JAP GAY GOBLIN
Grower Notes:
Pieris japonica 'Cabernet' Gay Goblin™ is more commonly known as Gay Goblin™ Pieris. This selection is part of the Enchanted Forest Collection® and is known for its year-round appeal and low-maintenance nature. It boasts glossy, narrow leaves that emerge with a striking coppery-bronze or red tint in spring, providing a beautiful contrast to its mature dark green foliage. In late winter to early spring, Gay Goblin™ produces an abundance of elegant, drooping clusters of bell-shaped flowers. The blossoms are a rich pink to red color, earning the 'Cabernet' name.
Gay Goblin™ Pieris is highly deer resistant, unlike other varieties, and thrives in partial sun to partial shade. It enjoys dappled shade or a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates. It enjoys organically rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. It is crucial that the soil is not alkaline, as this can lead to chlorosis (yellowing of the leaves). Pieris 'Gay Goblin™ 'Cabernet' makes an excellent focal point. Its upright, dense habit gives it a strong architectural presence that can anchor a garden bed, brighten a shade corner, or stand out in a mixed border.
