ENCHANTED FOREST® GAY GOBLIN™ JAPANESE PIERIS

Pieris japonica 'Cabernet' Gay Goblin™ is more commonly known as Gay Goblin™ Pieris. This selection is part of the Enchanted Forest Collection® and is known for its year-round appeal and low-maintenance nature. It boasts glossy, narrow leaves that emerge with a striking coppery-bronze or red tint in spring, providing a beautiful contrast to its mature dark green foliage. In late winter to early spring, Gay Goblin™ produces an abundance of elegant, drooping clusters of bell-shaped flowers. The blossoms are a rich pink to red color, earning the 'Cabernet' name.

Gay Goblin™ Pieris is highly deer resistant, unlike other varieties, and thrives in partial sun to partial shade. It enjoys dappled shade or a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates. It enjoys organically rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. It is crucial that the soil is not alkaline, as this can lead to chlorosis (yellowing of the leaves). Pieris 'Gay Goblin™ 'Cabernet' makes an excellent focal point. Its upright, dense habit gives it a strong architectural presence that can anchor a garden bed, brighten a shade corner, or stand out in a mixed border.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
