VIOLET INTRIGUE ENGLISH LAVENDER
Lavandula angustifolia 'Violet Intrigue' is more commonly known as 'Violet Intrigue' Lavender. It is a highly desirable cultivar of English lavender, celebrated for its vibrant, deep violet-blue flowers and long, strong, upright stems that make it an exceptional choice for cutting and drying, as the color and fragrance hold up well. It forms a bushy, upright mound that reaches a substantial size of 18-24 inches in both height and spread, offering an impressive visual presence in the garden. It is notable for its vigorous growth and extended blooming period, typically gracing the garden with its strong, sweet fragrance from early summer to early fall. Like all English lavenders, it is hardy in USDA Zones 5-9, highly attractive to pollinators, and naturally resistant to deer and rabbits.
'Violet Intrigue' Lavender thrives in full sun (at least six hours a day) and demands perfectly well-drained, lean (poor) soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH; adding sand or gravel to heavy clay soil is essential to ensure sharp drainage, its primary requirement. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and prefers minimal water and no heavy fertilization.
