SWANS IN FLIGHT IRIS
"Swans In Flight' Siberian Iris (Iris sibirica 'Swans in Flight') is a magnificent and highly decorated Siberian Iris, having received the prestigious American Dykes Medal, the highest award given to Irises of any type. It boasts large, pure ivory-white flowers, often measuring up to 5 inches across, with wide, gracefully formed falls and standards that lend the appearance of a flock of swans in motion. The blooms, which appear late in the Siberian Iris season (early to mid-summer), are subtly accented at the throat with delicate lemon-yellow signals and faint green lines, enhancing the overall elegance. With flower stalks reaching up to 33 inches tall, this variety makes a breathtaking visual statement, particularly when massed in the garden.
Like other Siberian Irises, 'Swans in Flight' is an incredibly vigorous and low-maintenance Iris that is cold-hardy (USDA Zones 3-9) and reliably resistant to deer and rabbits. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. Its natural tolerance for both average and consistently wet soil makes it an ideal choice for planting along borders, in mixed perennial beds, or in damp areas such as rain gardens or pond banks. The upright, grassy, blue-green foliage maintains a fine, attractive texture throughout the entire growing season, providing valuable vertical structure even after the spectacular blooms have faded.
