HALESIA CAR WEDDING BELLS
Grower Notes:
Halesia carolina 'Wedding Bells' is a celebrated cultivar of the native Carolina Silverbell tree, specifically selected for its superior ornamental qualities. The most prominent feature of 'Wedding Bells' is its prolific flowering. It produces a significantly heavier and more consistent bloom than the straight species, even at a young age. In early spring, just before the leaves emerge, the branches are completely covered with clusters of large, pure white, bell-shaped flowers. The individual flowers are not only more numerous but also larger and open more fully than those on a standard Carolina Silverbell. This creates an even more dramatic "snowdrop-like" effect, as if hundreds of tiny white bells are dangling from every branch.
In summer 'Wedding Bells' is covered with fresh, ovate green leaves that provide a clean and elegant look. In fall, the foliage turns a beautiful yellow, adding a vibrant splash of autumn color. Come winter, the bark on mature trees provides an attractive silhouette with its handsome gray tones with creamy-white stripes. It is ideal as a planting beneath larger shade trees, where it can add a layer of beautiful spring color to a woodland setting.
