BEYOND BLUE BLUE FESCUE GRASS

Festuca glauca 'Beyond Blue' is widely considered one of the most intense and color-stable blue fescues on the market. This cool-season ornamental grass forms a tight, mounded "pincushion" of exceptionally fine, needle-like foliage that typically reaches 9 to 12 inches in height and 15 to 18 inches in width. What sets 'Beyond Blue' apart is its remarkable ability to maintain its deep, electric blue color throughout the entire growing season without browning out or fading to green, even in the face of summer heat and humidity. In late spring, it produces slender, upright flower spikes that emerge a matching blue-green before maturing into a soft, sandy tan.

Caring for 'Beyond Blue' is remarkably simple, as it thrives in "lean" conditions that would stress other garden plants. It performs best in full sun, which is essential for developing the thick, waxy coating that gives the blades their brilliant blue hue. This grass requires sharply drained soil and is highly drought-tolerant once established, making it a premier choice for rock gardens, modern mass plantings, or as a vibrant edge for sunny borders. Maintenance is minimal. In early spring, simply "comb" through the clump with your fingers or a small hand rake to remove any dead blades from the previous year, which allows the fresh, intense blue growth to emerge cleanly.
