NIGHTGLOW™ BUSH HONEYSUCKLE

Diervilla splendens Nightglow™ ('El Madrigal') PP28060 is commonly referred to as Nightglow™ Bush Honeysuckle. It is a smaller, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a mounding habit that features bright yellow, trumpet-like flowers in early summer which contrast nicely against its reddish-purple foliage which turns darker red in fall. Flowers attract all kinds of pollinators to the garden.

Nightglow™ Bush Honeysuckle enjoys full to part sun. It is very adaptable and can thrive in average soil conditions and moisture levels. It does not tolerate urban pollution. It is ideal for mixed borders and container gardening.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in average to well-draining soil, noting that these shrubs are remarkably adaptable to a variety of conditions, ranging from full sun to partial shade. While they demonstrate excellent drought tolerance once established, provide consistent moisture during the first growing season to encourage a deep, robust root system. Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood or to manage size, as these plants respond well to rejuvenation pruning to maintain a dense, attractive habit. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to suppress weeds and stabilize soil moisture, keeping the material away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
