SWEET BIRCH

Sweet Birch, also known as the Black Birch, Mahogany Birch, Cherry Birch or Spice Birch, is a North American large, native, pyramidal shaped, deciduous tree that is noteworthy for its smooth, dark and shiny reddish-brown bark which is similar to that seen on cherry trees. The bark develops vertical cracks revealing dark brown bark patterns as it ages to approximately 40-50 years.

Betula Lenta thrives in moist, loamy, acidic, sandy soils that are well-drained and in full to part sun. It will need room to grow. Its golden yellow fall color is at its most vibrant in full sun. Seeds are a good food source for the birds.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
