ORANGE TORCH JAPANESE BARBERRY

Berberis thunbergii 'Orange Torch' is a showy deciduous shrub celebrated for its vertical, columnar habit and vibrant, ever-changing foliage. It emerges in spring with brilliant orange-red leaves that retain their fiery intensity throughout the summer. It is particularly valued for its narrow growth habit, typically reaching 3 to 4 feet tall while staying only 2 to 3 feet wide - making it an excellent choice for tight garden corners, colorful low hedges, or as a vertical accent in a perennial border.

Orange Torch Barberry thrives in full sun, as the foliage may fade to a muted green in shadier conditions. It is remarkably hardy and low-maintenance and enjoys well-drained soil. It is highly adaptable to urban pollution, salt, and various soil types. Once established, it is quite drought-tolerant and rarely requires pruning due to its naturally tidy, upright shape. Because of its sharp thorns, it is also famously deer-resistant, making it an ideal choice for areas where local wildlife might otherwise browse.
