SUNSATION MAGNOLIA

Magnolia 'Sunsation' is a stunning deciduous hybrid celebrated for its late-season blooms, which cleverly avoid the late spring frosts that often damage earlier varieties. It produces large, upright, goblet-shaped flowers that feature a unique color palette of buttery yellow with distinct rosy-pink blush accents. Unlike many yellow magnolias that can appear faded, 'Sunsation' maintains a vivid, high-contrast glow that serves as a dramatic focal point in any landscape. As the flowers fade, they are replaced by large, deep green ovate leaves that provide a lush, tropical canopy throughout the summer months, eventually reaching a pyramidal height of about 20 feet.

Magnolia 'Sunsation' requires full sun to partial shade with protection from strong, battering winds that can bruise the delicate petals. It performs best in rich, moist, and well-drained acidic soil, as it is sensitive to alkaline conditions and "wet feet."

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
