EARLY START™ VELVET GARDN PHLOX

Phlox paniculata Early Start Velvet™ is a striking addition to the Early Start™ series, known for its remarkably deep and luxurious color. This cultivar produces large, rounded clusters of velvety, dark purple-magenta blossoms that emit a soft, sweet fragrance throughout the early summer. Reaching a compact height of approximately 12 to 15 inches, it is prized for its ability to bloom significantly earlier than most garden phlox, providing a rich splash of royal color on a tidy, mounded frame of disease-resistant, forest-green foliage.

To keep Early Start Velvet™ thriving, it should be situated in a spot that receives full sun to very light dappled shade, as ample light is necessary to maintain the intensity of its dark floral tones. It prefers rich, organic soil that is well-drained but stays consistently moist; a layer of mulch around the base will help regulate soil temperature and moisture levels during the peak of summer. For the best health and performance, ensure the plant has good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew and deadhead the spent flower spikes to encourage a potential secondary bloom later in the season.
