EDITH BOGUE SOUTHERN MAGNOLIA

The Edith Bogue Southern Magnolia is a broadleaf evergreen tree that is noteworthy for its winter hardiness. It features lemon-scented, large white flowers the size of dinner plates that bloom for weeks in mid summer. It has glossy, dark green leaves with brown undersides that remain evergreen in the South and turn copper-bronze in fall. The fruits are red pods and are showy in fall.

Edith Bogue Southern Magnolia enjoys full sun to part shade in evenly moist, somewhat acidic, well-drained soils. It will not tolerate standing water.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote new growth.
