Zone: 4JACKMANII CLEMATIS
Clematis 'Jackmanii' is commonly referred to as Jackmanii Clematis or Jackman's Clematis. This incredibly popular deciduous climbing vine (since 1862!) features solid 4-6" velvety dark purple flowers with creamy green anthers.
Jackmanii Clematis thrives in full to part sun (preferring its head in the sun and feet in the shade), in moist, well-drained soils. It is an excellent choice for a trellis, fence or arbor.
This is a late blooming variety which blooms on new, current season's growth from mid June through September. Last year's stems will not bloom and can be pruned in late winter or early spring (Feb/March) to approximately 12" from the ground with two strong sets of buds on each stem. Blooms early summer and continues through fall.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: This variety falls in Group 3. Plant with the crown 2-3 inches deep in well-draining soil. Mulch well to keep the roots cool. Pruning: These bloom on new growth. In late winter or very early spring, cut the entire plant back hard to 6-12 inches above the soil level. This ensures vigorous, new growth and a full flush of flowers every single year.
