Zone: 4RED BARON CRABAPPLE
The Red Baron Crabapple is a narrow, upright tree with a small, vase-shaped oval crown when young. As it matures, the crown widens and spreads. A profusion of red flower buds open to a purplish red in May. They are followed by shiny red fruit that persist into winter. Its leaves emerge red and later in summer become a mix of red and green. In fall it ages to brilliant orange.
The Red Baron Crabapple enjoys full sun in rich, moist, well-drained soils. This cultivar tolerates urban pollution and will thrive in city environments. It is a small tree that will work in small spaces.
