RUSSIAN STONECROP
Sedum kamtschaticum, commonly known as Russian Stonecrop or Orange Stonecrop, is a dependable and vigorous sedum groundcover that brings consistent texture and color to the garden. It forms a dense, low-growing mat of succulent, spatulate leaves with distinctive toothed edges. Throughout the spring and summer, the foliage remains a rich, glossy green, providing a lush backdrop for other perennials. In early to mid-summer, it is nearly covered in flat-topped clusters of star-shaped, bright yellow flowers. As the blooms age, they transition into attractive orange-bronze seed pods, while the foliage often takes on deep reddish-bronze tones in the autumn, extending its visual interest well into the cooling months.
For the best garden performance, plant Orange Stonecrop in a location that receives full sun to partial shade, though the most prolific flowering and tightest growth habit occur in brighter light. It is rugged and adaptable and thrives in average to poor, well-drained soil and is notably drought-tolerant once it has established its root system.
In the landscape, it is an ideal choice for the front of a sunny border, as a durable filler in rock gardens, or as a colorful groundcover for erosion control on sloped areas. Maintenance is minimal-simply clear away any winter debris or old stems in early spring to make room for the fresh green growth to emerge.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly alkaline pH. Water sparingly, as sedums are drought-tolerant. Provide full sun to partial shade. Prune back in the spring to maintain shape and encourage new growth.
