CORAL EYE CREEPING PHLOX

Phlox subulata 'Coral Eye' is a charming and high-performing cultivar of creeping phlox, recognized for its distinct, soft-toned blooms. 'Coral Eye' produces a dense, moss-like carpet of needle-green foliage that becomes completely blanketed in pale, shell-pink to nearly white flowers in mid-to-late spring. Each bloom is punctuated by a prominent, dark coral-pink "eye" at the center, creating a sophisticated bicolor effect that adds depth and visual interest to a sunny landscape. Its low-growing, spreading habit makes it a premier choice for cascading over stone walls, filling in rock gardens, or serving as a durable, weed-suppressing groundcover.

To ensure 'Coral Eye' performs its best, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun, which is critical for achieving that signature "carpet of flowers" look. It thrives in lean, gritty, and exceptionally well-drained soil; like most creeping phlox, it actually prefers "tough" spots and will struggle in overly rich or soggy ground. Once established, it is remarkably drought-tolerant and can handle the heat and salt spray common in roadside plantings or along paved walkways. After the spring color has faded, a light shearing of the foliage will help maintain its tight, mounded shape and encourage a fresh flush of green growth that remains attractive throughout the winter.
