Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Gracilis Compacta' is commonly referred to as the Compact Hinoki False Cypress or Compact Hinoki Cypress. It is considered a classic Hinoki for the landscape. It features a compact form that features fan-shaped bright green foliage with white markings underneath. Reddish-brown peeling bark adds to its appeal. This is a smaller version of the Hinoki Cypress.
The Compact Hinoki Cypress enjoys full to part sun in evenly moist, fertile, well-drained soils. It is best in full sun, but will tolerate some shade. It will not tolerate wet, poorly-drained soils.
