PALISADE® AMERICAN HORNBEAM

A nice improvement of the native American Hornbeam, the Palisade® American Hornbeam forms an upright, narrow oval canopy with strongly ascending, upswept branches. It has attractive sinewy gray bark as it matures. Dark green, finely textured foliage ages to a nice yellow-orange to red fall color. This slow-growing deciduous tree is ideal for smaller yards or parks and enjoys light shade. It thrives in moist, well-drained soils and does not do well in prolonged drought.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant it in a location with full sun to partial shade, and ensure good air circulation around the plant. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring, and mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
