Zone: 5STRIATA HARDY ORCHID
Bletilla striata is commonly referred to as Striata Hardy Orchid, Hyacinth Orchid or Chinese Ground Orchid. It is a terrestrial orchid with shiny, pale green, papery-textured, sword-shaped leaves and small, cattleya-like, hot pink flowers in pretty racemes of up to 12 blooms in early summer. Seedheads follow blooms that later turn brown as they mature.
Striata Hardy Orchid thrives in part shade in organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It prefers dappled afternoon shade and regular moisture throughout its growing season. It naturalizes over time by short rhizomes and is ideal in partially shady borders or rock gardens.
