RUFFLED VELVET SIBERIAN IRIS
'Ruffled Velvet Siberian Iris (Iris sibirica 'Ruffled Velvet') is an award-winning Siberian Iris prized for its sumptuous, richly colored flowers that bring a touch of luxury to the late spring and early summer garden. The blossoms are a dramatic combination of deep plum-purple or red-purple, with the ruffled falls exhibiting a velvety texture and being brilliantly marked at their center by an eye-catching, contrasting splash of black and gold. This striking color display sits atop sturdy flower stems that typically reach a height of 24 to 30 inches, rising above the dense, elegant clumps of fine, sword-like, blue-green foliage. Beyond its beauty as a specimen plant, its flowers are superb for cutting.
'Ruffled Velvet' thrives across a wide range of climates (USDA Zones 3-9). For the most prolific blooms and best growth, it should be situated in full sun to partial shade and planted in moist, fertile, slightly acidic, and well-drained soil. It is noted for its high tolerance for both clay soil and wet conditions, making it an excellent choice for planting near water features or in rain gardens. It is also an ideal, low-maintenance option for gardeners as it is reliably deer and rabbit resistant, maintaining a neat, upright foliage clump throughout the season.
