WEIGELA FLO MIDNIGHT WINE
Grower Notes:

Weigela Midnight Wine® (Weigela florida 'Elvera' PP12217 Proven Winners® Color Choice® Midnight Wine®) is a popular dwarf shrub that is highly valued for its striking, year-round foliage color and compact habit. A smaller version of the well-known Wine & Roses® Weigela, its primary feature is the rich, deep burgundy to near-black leaves that provide a bold, dramatic contrast in any landscape. This foliage retains its intense color from spring through fall, and unlike some other dark-leafed plants, it doesn't fade to green, especially when planted in full sun. In late spring and early summer, it produces a charming display of rosy-pink, trumpet-shaped flowers that contrast beautifully with the dark leaves and attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

Midnight Wine® is a very low-maintenance and versatile plant, making it an excellent choice for a variety of garden applications. Due to its diminutive size, typically reaching just 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide, it is ideal for the front of a border, for edging a walkway or garden bed, or as a colorful groundcover. Its compact, mounding form also makes it perfect for container gardening on patios or balconies. Midnight Wine® is adaptable to a wide range of soil types, tolerates both heat and cold, and is deer resistant. It requires full sun for the best foliage color and flowering, and while it doesn't need much pruning, any shaping should be done immediately after the spring bloom.
