PURPLE PRINCE CRABAPPLE

The Purple Prince Crabapple is a small, fast-growing, rounded deciduous tree with upward spreading branches. It is such a prolific bloomer! It features bright red buds that open to fragrant rose-red, single flowers in mid spring. Its flowers are followed by abundant, maroon fruit that persist into winter. Birds and wildlife love them and they make a fine jelly. The foliage is ovate leaves that emerge purple-bronze in spring and later turn green through summer followed by warms yellows in fall.

The Purple Prince has good disease resistance and enjoys full sun in rich, moist, well-drained soils.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in a location with full sun and well-draining soil, and ensure the soil is slightly acidic. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth and fruit production.
