Zone: 5DELMARA™ RED ICE PLANT
Delosperma Delmara™ Red is a striking perennial groundcover that provides a high-impact wash of color for hot, dry areas. It features intense, scarlet-red daisy flowers with a clean white eye and a yellow center, which creates a sharp contrast against its bluish-green succulent foliage. Delmara™ Red has an exceptionally long bloom time, typically showing off its vibrant colors from late spring all the way through late summer. As a low-growing carpet, it quickly knits together to form a dense mat that remains evergreen in many climates, even taking on a burgundy tint in the fall for added seasonal interest.
In the landscape, Delmara™ Red is best utilized in rock gardens, along sunny borders, or as a "spiller" in mixed containers where it can drape over the edges. To ensure its success, it must be planted in a spot that receives at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight, as the flowers will remain closed on cloudy days or in the shade. The most important care requirement is sharply drained soil; Delmara™ Red thrives in sandy or gritty environments and will likely fail in heavy clay or standing water. Once established, it is remarkably drought-tolerant and requires very little water.

To help Delosperma settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant Delosperma in lean, sharply well-draining soil - sandy or gravelly sites are ideal. Delosperma is a succulent that requires full sun and excellent air circulation; it does not tolerate heavy, wet soil, especially during winter months, as it is highly prone to crown and root rot. Water sparingly once established; avoid overwatering and heavy mulching, as these will lead to plant failure.
