SILVER AND GOLD YELLOW TWIG DOGWOOD

The Silver and Gold Yellow Twig Dogwood, also known as Silver and Gold Red-Osier dogwood is noteworthy for its variegated, pointy green leaves with creamy-white, uneven margins, and for its bright yellow stems in winter. White berries are produced in late summer and are quite attractive to birds and have a more attractive display than its tiny, white flowers in late spring. In fall the foliage turns yellow. Cornus sericea 'Silver and Gold' is a sport of Cornus sericea 'Falaviramea'. Periodic pruning of older stems provide better winter stem color that is most pronounced on younger stems.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in full sun to partial shade; it performs best in sunny locations where stem color will be most vibrant. It is exceptionally adaptable to various soil types and thrives in moist or wet soils. Pruning: Like all C. sericea types, the stem color fades on older wood. To maintain the bright yellow 'twig' color, perform rejuvenation pruning (coppicing) in late winter: cut one-third to one-half of the oldest, dullest stems to the ground. This forces a flush of vibrant, new yellow growth for the following winter season.
