Coreopsis verticillata Nova® 'Opal' is a stellar addition, offering an intricate color break from traditional yellow tickseeds. As part of the Terra Nova® breeding program, Nova® 'Opal' features delicate, daisy-like blooms with soft, whisper-pink to creamy white petals accented by a striking coral-pink eye and lavender-tinged edges. It maintains a low, tightly mounded habit, generally maxing out at 12-18 inches tall and wide, while retaining the finely cut, threadleaf foliage characteristic of the verticillata species. This fine-textured green foliage provides a soft architectural contrast in mixed borders and remains highly resistant to powdery mildew throughout the humid summer months, ensuring Nova® 'Opal' looks clean and vigorous from its initial flush in June all the way through October.
For peak performance, the ideal spot for Coreopsis Nova® 'Opal' is a location bathed in full sun, though it will tolerate light afternoon shade in exceptionally hot climates. It thrives in average, well-draining soils and is remarkably drought-tolerant once its root system is established, making it a low-water, high-reward option for commercial landscapes or residential pollinator gardens. While it is highly attractive to bees and butterflies, it reliably resists deer and rabbit browsing.
