Wisteria macrostachya 'Betty Matthews' is commonly referred to as Summer Cascade™ Wisteria. This First Editions® selection is a vigorous, deciduous, multi-stemmed vine that is one of the hardiest of all Wisterias. It features great cold tolerance and beautifully fragrant, lavender blooms from late spring to early summer that attracts hummingbirds and other beneficial pollinators. Flowers form on new growth so pruning can easily be done in late winter before new growth appears. Foliage emerges coppery-bronze in spring and then turns to dark green in summer before turning yellow in fall.
Summer Cascade™ Wisteria thrives in full sun in rich, fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It does not tolerate standing water. It is perfect for trailing along arbors or pergolas.
