Zone: 4WATERMELON KISSES™ WEIGELA
Weigela Watermelon Kisses™ is a vibrant, re-blooming deciduous shrub prized for its outstanding floral display and tidy, compact habit. It is an excellent choice for a low-maintenance, multi-season accent, typically maturing to a modest size of about 3-4 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide with a dense, rounded form. Throughout late spring, Watermelon Kisses™ becomes covered in a profusion of bright, tubular flowers, which are a striking crimson-red on the outside and feature a contrasting white or pale pink "kiss" in the throat. This initial bloom is often followed by sporadic re-blooming throughout the summer, ensuring continuous color. Its vibrant blossoms are particularly attractive to hummingbirds and contrast beautifully with its dense, dark green foliage.
Watermelon Kisses™ Weigela thrives in full sun (at least six hours of direct sunlight daily) for best flowering and deepest color saturation. While it tolerates a wide range of soils, it prefers moist, well-drained soil and should not be allowed to dry out, especially during its first growing season or in hot, dry weather. Once established, it has average water needs and is moderately drought-tolerant.
