Zone: 5WINE & ROSES® WEIGELA
Weigela florida 'Alexandra' PP10772 Proven Winners® Color Choice® Wine & Roses® is more commonly referred to as Wine & Roses® Weigela. It is a classic and highly popular deciduous shrub, known for its bold, season-long color and easy-care nature. Its claim to fame is the striking contrast between its deep, rich burgundy-purple foliage and a profusion of bright, rosy-pink, trumpet-shaped flowers. Its foliage color holds its intensity from spring to fall, making it a powerful backdrop in a garden even when not in bloom. In late spring, the shrub is covered in flowers that are a magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies, providing a spectacular show that is sure to catch the eye.
Wine & Roses® is an original dark-leafed Weigela, paving the way for many other dark-foliage cultivars. It thrives in full sun for its deepest purple foliage to pop. It is highly adaptable to a wide range of soil types, including clay, as long as it is well-drained. It has average water needs. Water regularly during the first growing season to help it establish. Once established, it is moderately drought tolerant. It is ideal as a specimen plant or a focal point in a mixed border.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade. Water regularly but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune immediately after the main spring flush of flowers fades to maintain shape; avoid pruning in late winter or early spring, as this will remove the flower buds for the coming season.
