VERY FINE WINE® WEIGELA

Weigela florida 'SMNWFDFPD' is more commonly known as Very Fine Wine® Weigela. This dense, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub has a compact, mounding habit and features burgundy foliage with hints of deep purple. Rose-red trumpet-shaped flowers with pink overtones along the branches appear in late spring from red flower buds. It attracts hummingbirds, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to the garden.

Very Fine Wine® Weigela thrives in full sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is tolerant of urban environments and can be drought tolerant once established. Ideal for hedges, mass plantings and containers.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade. Water regularly but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune immediately after the main spring flush of flowers fades to maintain shape; avoid pruning in late winter or early spring, as this will remove the flower buds for the coming season.
