Weigela florida 'FLORACLAR' PP35328 Proven Winners® Color Choice® Bubbly Wine® is commonly called Bubbly Wine® Weigela. It is a compact deciduous shrub celebrated for its striking multi-color foliage and mounded habit. A sport of the well-known 'Fine Wine' variety, it features high-contrast variegation with bright yellow margins and green centers set against dark burgundy stems. In late spring, the plant is covered in soft pink, trumpet-shaped flowers that are highly attractive to hummingbirds. Growing only 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, it provides a vibrant, low-growing pop of color that remains consistent from spring through the first frost.
For the best performance, plant Bubbly Wine® in full sun to ensure the most vivid foliage variegation and the heaviest bloom set, though it can tolerate light afternoon shade. It is remarkably adaptable to various soil types, including clay, provided the area is well-drained. Because this variety blooms on old wood, any pruning or shaping should be done immediately after the spring flowering period to avoid cutting off next year's buds.
