PRAGENSE VIBURNUM

Viburnum x pragense is commonly referred to as Prague Viburnum or Pragense Viburnum. It is a cross between Viburnum rhytidophyllum and Viburnum utile by the Prague Municipal Gardens, Czech Republic. It is a hardy, dense, multi-stemmed, semi-evergreen shrub with a oval to rounded form. It produces pink buds that open to slightly fragrant, creamy white flowers in early spring. Flowers fade to bright red berries in fall, maturing to black. Semi-evergreen foliage is very waxy and dark green with felt gray beneath.

Pragense Viburnum is fast growing and thrives in full to partial sun in average, slightly acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is ideal as a foundation planting or hedge. It can be easily trimmed as a formal hedge.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade. Water regularly but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune sparingly and only immediately after flowering to maintain shape; avoid pruning in late winter or early spring, as this will remove the flower buds for the coming season.
