Veronica 'Blue Skywalker' is a standout, tall speedwell that brings impressive vertical interest to the landscape with its striking, columnar form. Unlike some older, sprawling varieties, 'Blue Skywalker' stands tall and sturdy, typically reaching 24 to 30 inches in height with a consistent, upright habit. From mid-summer through early autumn, it produces vibrant, long-lasting spikes of intense, clear blue flowers that rise above dark, glossy, serrated foliage. These architectural spires are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it an excellent choice for a formal or cottage-style perennial border where you need reliable, bright color and a refined, non-floppy silhouette.
To ensure 'Blue Skywalker' thrives, site it in a location that receives full sun, as it needs at least 6 hours of direct light daily to maintain its upright strength and maximize flower production. It prefers fertile, moist, and well-draining soil, so avoid heavy clays that hold excessive water, as this can lead to crown rot. While it has good disease resistance, providing adequate airflow between plants will further help prevent foliar issues like powdery mildew. Regular deadheading of spent spikes can encourage a light rebloom, and cutting the plant back to the base in late winter or early spring will keep the crown healthy and ready for a vigorous new season of growth.
