Zone: 4ADAMS COLUMNARIS JAPANESE YEW
The Adams Columnar Yew (Taxus cuspidata 'Columnaris') is a distinctive evergreen shrub prized for its vary narrow, upright columnar form. Reaching 10-12 feet tall with a mere 3-foot spread in its initial 10-15 years, it features dark green foliage that maintains its rich color year-round. Female plants produce attractive red drupes in the fall.
Taxus cuspidata 'Columnaris' thrives in average, medium-moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade, particularly favoring moist, sandy loamy conditions. It exhibits excellent pruning tolerance but is intolerant of wet soils.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil, selecting a location that ranges from full sun to full shade. These versatile evergreens are highly adaptable but thrive best in sites with protection from harsh, drying winds and excessive moisture, as they are susceptible to root rot in waterlogged conditions. Provide consistent water during the first growing season to ensure deep root establishment.
Prune as needed in late spring or early summer to maintain your desired form or density, as these shrubs respond exceptionally well to shearing. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, taking care to keep the material a few inches away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
